Even though it's only five parts, it's still two episodes (or two hours) too long. Episodes two and three take a lot of time to explain the background between Candy (Biel) and Betty (Lynskey) but as soon as you mention the word "affair" you feel like you have everything already know you should know. Lovers of good lawsuit drama should also look further, not only is it extremely short (only the last episode) but these are probably the most incompetent lawyers I've seen in ages. I'm assuming this is straight from the transcripts, which just makes it more frustrating.

Texas 1980. A typical American and well-kept neighborhood. With tidy residents, green grass, polite children and a church that is never far away. But under the surface... The five-part Candy is a fantastic true-crime series about the lives of Candy Montgomery (Jessica Biel in optima forma) and her friend Betty Gore (Melanie Lynskey), who slowly finds herself in a major crisis. Biel, also an executive producer, seems to have a patent on crimes that are not so much about death, but about the sometimes incomprehensible psychology of life. Her role in Candy has strong similarities with the first season of The Sinner.
Candy is a top series in everything. Superb actors, pleasant pacing, great set and high production values in a powerful story. A top team is at work here, that much is clear. Director Michael Uppendahl (Fargo, Ratched, Mad Men) will direct the two episodes. We even see Justin Timberlake in a supporting role as sheriff Steve 'Diffy' Deffibaugh. We sometimes complain about stretched series here. With five episodes, Candy is just right. For lovers of The Sinner and Mindhunter.
