In this second season, international politics is discussed more: the ethical dilemma surrounding troops in Afghanistan, the possibility of “promoting someone away” to Europe… The fictional African country in the double episode is based on Sudan. Nyborg again has to compromise between idealism and pragmatism. She is confronted with the opportunism of those who prey on her seat, and with the populism of the far right. It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep private and work separate. Some conflicts are recognizable in Belgian politics.
The role of the media is further explored: colored reporting, tabloid press, hurrah journalism, infotainment and mutual influence. If the prime minister has an image problem, spin doctor Kasper Juul gives it a positive spin. Katrine Fønsmark wants to bring serious investigative journalism, but sometimes goes a bit too far in her search for information. Politics, media and private life are once again entwined in a high-quality drama.
