Better plot
After a family tragedy is narrowly averted, a corrupt police detective undergoes a painful moral awakening and decides to right 20 years of wrongdoing. However, it will not be easy to satisfy her newfound conscience. She slowly realizes that her redemption will not be complete until she brings down the powerful mobster she has worked for all along. This is a man she helped rise to power and has grown to love like a brother.

The premise of the five-part British Better is unusual: a nearly 20-year partnership between a local drug mafia boss and a police inspector. Dealer Col McHugh (Andrew Buchan - Industry, Broadchurch) and DI Lou Slack (an excellent Leila Farzad) help each other out. By giving money, exchanging tips or turning a blind eye. For Lou, this resourceful - but highly unlikely - idea leads to a complex double life.
After the first two great episodes, Better can't live up to expectations and lacks the class of Happy Valley or Line of Duty. But Better does have its moments, has pace and the acting is fine. The ridiculous finale detracts from a series in which Better is not always original.
