The Academy at Ivy Ridge claimed to use therapy and recreational activities to help troubled youth. Instead, the teens were mentally and physically abused in a program that operated like a cult. For example, they were not allowed to talk, laugh or go outside. In this documentary series, documentary filmmaker Katherine Kubler and other former students recount their horrific experiences at this reform school and reveal the horrors of the industry for troubled teens.

Disturbing three-part documentary series about the Ivy Ridge reform school, where alleged problem youth were mentally and physically abused, while the teenagers' parents were led to believe that this would involve therapy and recreational activities. Director Katherine Kubler was sent to reform school by her father, which of course makes the documentary very personal. The scenes in which she confronts her father with the truth are obviously quite intense. Kubler cannot prevent her documentary from sometimes feeling a bit sensational and exploitative, but for the most part she delivers compelling and memorable work.
