River Monsters plot
River Monsters is presented by biologist and fisherman Jeremy Wade who travels the world in search of fearsome freshwater predators in search of clues, eyewitnesses, and stories of humans killed in the water by fish and amphibian attacks. In each episode he tries to catch the animal, examine it and then release it back into the water. His goal is to save these rare animals from extinction and to help people understand the truth behind the horrific attacks on humans.

Biologist and professional angler Jeremy Wade sets out in this entertaining seven-part documentary series in search of legendary freshwater monsters, in other words: oversized fish in all kinds of bizarre shapes. Sometimes you'll be surprised how close to home some of these monsters live: there's the huge European Maneater, hiding in a lake just off Berlin. The re-enacted scenes are sometimes a bit clumsy and the 'legends' should clearly be taken with a grain of salt, but the searches for the monsters themselves and the often nocturnal encounters are quite exciting and intense. Brrr, I didn't dare go into the sea anymore, but now I also avoid all rivers, lakes and puddles.
