In the sixties, every Flemish family had its 'uncle pater': bearded men who quieted many a living room, schoolroom or parish hall with powerful stories. They told about life during the 'missions', inspired by the ideal of proclaiming the Good News. Most of them did that in Congo. Today, these burly octogenarians shuffle around in monasteries and homes, and look back one last time. They draw on a great many moving, funny and compelling anecdotes, and in this way the last surviving missionaries sketch the great history of 'uncle pater' in Congo.
