Extras follows the lives of extras in films. During the recordings, Extras shows the ups and downs of main characters Andy Millman and Maggie Jacobs, both extras. Noteworthy are the well-known guest actors who often play a parody of themselves.

Waar ik het eerste seizoen vooral vermakelijk vond, heb ik met dit tweede seizoen meermaals écht in een deuk gelegen. Vooral het briljante personage van Stephen Merchant, de agent van Andy Millman, draagt daartoe bij. De scène waar hij die actiefiguur van Millman's personage in diens sitcom bovenhaalt op de BAFTA's en dit poppetje plots de catch phrase uit de sitcom blijft herhalen terwijl iemand doodserieus een dankwoord staat te prevelen... Geweldig! Nu Andy eindelijk z'n grote droom mag waarmaken (z'n eigen sitcom schrijven, maken en de hoofdrol erin vertolken), hakt de reeks nog meer dan in het eerste seizoen in op het knullige personage van Gervais. Millman slaagt er telkens weer in zichzelf in gênante, benarde situaties te brengen, maar wordt daar niet zelden een handje in toegestoken door de mensen rondom hem. Dat viel me aan dit seizoen vooral op, dat de mensen rond Millman beslissingen nemen waar hijzelf eigenlijk niet achter staat (de gastrol van Chris Martin in z'n sitcom; de pruik en bril van zijn hoofdpersonage), maar hij er wel bakken kritiek voor over zich heen krijgt. Pijnlijk! Gervais zal tot in de eeuwigheid bekend blijven als David Brent uit The Office, maar dit is ook een erg fijne serie. 4 sterren

Where I found the first season especially entertaining, I really messed up several times with this second season. Especially the brilliant character of Stephen Merchant, Andy Millman's agent, contributes to this. The scene where he pulls out that action figure of Millman's character in his sitcom at the BAFTAs and this puppet suddenly keeps repeating the catch phrase from the sitcom while someone is seriously muttering a thank you... Awesome!

Now that Andy can finally fulfill his big dream (write, create and star in his own sitcom), the series cuts into Gervais's clumsy character even more than in the first season. Millman always manages to put himself in embarrassing, precarious situations, but is often given a helping hand by the people around him. What struck me about this season was that the people around Millman make decisions that he doesn't really support himself (Chris Martin's guest role in his sitcom; his main character's wig and glasses), but he it gets a lot of criticism for it. Painful!

Gervais will forever be known as David Brent from The Office, but this is also a very nice series.
