Duts plot

Walter Duts is an eccentric man who has lived alone in the parental home since the death of his mother. Although he looks a bit odd with his beard and glasses, Walter is goodness itself. He leads a quiet life and won't hurt a fly. He is at peace with himself. But with the rest of the world things don't get along so well. The peace in Duts's life is indeed disturbed by his difficult relationship with the outside world, which reacts nervously, irritated and prejudiced to Walter. Yet Walter never turns out to be the victim of all that aggression. In the end, it's the others who kill themselves.

One of the two legendary characters that Herwig Illegems has played (Herman in Van Vlees en Bloed is the other), a simple but very brave man who ends up in situations that he often cannot estimate properly and is happy as long as he can do something with his moped. drive around. The "hedde nog weusjes" scene is the best in the series.

A great Flemish series with a memorable Herwig Ilegems, who also had a strong hand in the screenplay, as Walter Duts, a special gentleman to say the least. The series consists of seven episodes that are half self-contained, so it is perfectly possible to pick just one. In that case, I can wholeheartedly recommend the episode Bulgarian Wines, which contains a scene that - as far as I'm concerned - can even be called pure poetry: the spaghetti scene. I'm not going to try to write it down here, it's mainly something you have to see and experience for yourself.

I do think that Duts is a sequence that hits you or does nothing at all. There is no golden mean. Humor should be your thing, it may even be regional (the series is set in the village of Loenhout in the Kempen, I am from that region myself) and sometimes even downright absurd.

I also think the acting is very strong, with both a strong permanent cast (Steve Geerts and the regretted Greta Van Langendonck at the front) and some hilarious secondary characters (John! De Gerald!).

You have those series that - in terms of setting, humor, characters, atmosphere - are right on target, and Duts is one of them for me!
