Sidonia no Kishi plot

It has been 1000 years since Gauna, a strange race of aliens, with no known means of communication, destroyed the solar system. A small part of humanity has managed to escape and now lives on huge "seed ships", such as the Sidonia. On these ships it is possible to maintain a society while the ship floats through space. Nagate Tanikaze is a young man who grew up tucked deep in the depths of the ship. When he goes into training to become a pilot of one of the huge robots (Gardes), he is assigned the legendary robot Tsugumori. Nagate and the other pilots battle to the death with the Gauna in an ultimate battle for the survival of humanity.
