Doesn't disappoint.

Game adaptations are rarely a success, but this series seems to be one of the rare exceptions. It feels a bit like a western version of Hellsing, with a similar battle against the armies of darkness, in which vampires play the main role, and with a lot of blood, gore and over-the-top violence. Those western influences have advantages and disadvantages. One advantage to Hellsing is that Castlevania tries more hard to build up her characters instead of reducing them to pulp clichés and fan service. Castlevania's world and characters are also very cliché, but are more human, less over-the-top idiotic and feel less like a lame excuse for classy violence. But a disadvantage is that the series is less stylish. The animation style is more generic and cartoonish, and that feeling is reinforced by the incredibly dull voice acting (after two episodes I switched to Japanese because of that). Instead of giving the characters more color, it reinforces the impression that they are walking clichés. In addition, the fights feel very tame. Lots of gore, little intensity. In short, Castlevania has more substance, but less style.

But despite its limitations (and short playing time), Castlevania has exceeded my expectations. It looks nice and is in any case quite stylish. This way they can make more game adaptations. 3*

Anyway, there will be a sequel. But as written above: the English voice acting is very mediocre.

Animation, color and image are okay. Story was very thin.

The potential is there.

As far as I'm concerned, this studio can work on more franchises, such as Game of Thrones and Batman. The drawing style looks very nice and it is all much more mature than most other animation (including Anime) series. The potential is certainly there.

Unfortunately, it is only four episodes and the story is therefore wafer thin. A shame, with a few more episodes I would have gotten a higher score.
