Der Seewolf plot

The writer Humphrey van Weyden is on a ferry near San Francisco on his way to his friend when he is rammed by another ship and is shipwrecked. Van Weyden is hoisted aboard a boat by seal catcher 'Ghost' of which Wolf Larsen, nicknamed Seewolf, is the captain. However, he is slowly going blind. He conducts a harsh and inhumane regime. Larsen refuses to stop and drop him ashore at Van Weyden's request and asks him to accept the rules on his ship. After a series of humiliations by Larsen and his crew, Van Weyden recognizes in Wolf Larsen his old friend, with whom he traveled all over the country as a 17-year-old vagabond. Day by day, Van Weyden gains confidence and tries to escape from the ship.
