Axel Nort (1967-1968)

One of the iconic youth series of the BRT from the mid-sixties. In the lead role we see the great Nand Buyl at work, with his pupil Johny Voners (also in real life Johny was a pupil of Nand during his theater training) at his side. The sixteen episodes follow each other in a tangle of events, and it is therefore not surprising to learn that the screenplay is written by Louis De Groof, who also achieved such an achievement for Captain Zeppos . The direction is in the hands of Senne Rouffaer, who had already proven himself in the first season of Kapitein Zeppos, just like his wife Vera Veroft who is again in front of the camera.

The essentially simple story - but complexly elaborated - is portrayed with flair, in black and white, with the soundtrack at times featuring the proto-psychedelic guitar rock sound of the mid-sixties. Episode 10 features a remarkable moment when Nand Buyl has the opportunity to sing a song with a rock band as backup. Perhaps a tribute to his time as an actor in Edith Kiel's films where he also sang a song at least once.
It can also be established that 2020 was a black year for the cast of Axel Nort, since no fewer than three actors have left us: Johny Voners, Denise De Weerdt and Jacky Morel (we see him in the last two episodes). May they rest in peace. In the meantime, there is probably little left of the cast, except for the youngsters.

Certainly a pleasant viewing experience and of course a big step back in time to see some good actors at work.
