The final episode was broadcast in the United States on 6 May 2004 and became the most-watched television finale of the noughties and the fifth most-watched series finale of all time, with 52.5 million viewers.

Friends was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning the Outstanding Comedy Series award in 2002 for its eighth season. It can regularly be found on lists of the greatest television shows in history.

At the moment, it is a good time to revisit why we love the show in the aftermath of the tragic death of Matthew Perry, who played the beloved, iconic Chandler Bing.

According to our community votes, the best season of Friends is season four, which was released in 1997/1998. Noted storylines from that season include Ross' relationship with Emily and their subsequent wedding in London, Chandler and Monica hooking up for the first time, Phoebe becoming pregnant, Rachel realising her love for Ross and Joey and Chandler swapping apartments with Monica and Rachel.

Season four includes the episode which may consider to be the best in the entire series - The One with the Embryos. While Phoebe attempts to get pregnant as a surrogate for her brother and partner, the rest of the gang take part in a quiz - Chandler and Joey versus Monica and Rachel with Ross as quizmaster - to determine what pair knows each other best.

The second-best season is season three. That includes hugely popular episodes The One Where No One's Ready, The One with the Football, The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break, The One Without the Ski-Trip and The One at the Beach.

The worst season is season nine, according to our community.
