De Stamhouder plot
Series based on the autobiographical work of Alexander Münninghoff. At the end of the sixties, Münninghoff falls head over heels for the self-assured, free-spirited Ellen. When, after a beautiful night of love, he confesses that his father Frans was an SS man during the war, Ellen reacts dismissively; after all, her family suffered greatly during the war. She disappears from Alexander's life for a month, and then returns to him; she is pregnant. Both want to keep the child and decide to get married; but on Ellen's condition that Alexander puts an end to his dark family past; then he finds out that he knows little about his parents and grandfather.

I still have to see the last episode, but I already dare to give 4.5 for this series!
As far as I'm concerned, this series is one of the best made of all time.
Good atmospheric settings, credible storylines, fascinating action moments, emotional and poignant scenes that sometimes make you think.
Well acted and cast.
The only (minor) flaw is the use of flashforwards and flashbacks; it is important to keep your attention when watching this series - preferably watch with like-minded people because of the genre and the period in which everything takes place; some knowledge about politics, geopolitics, social conditions, the events of war and the ruthlessness of the Nazis and associates make the story more understandable.
I followed this series on my own, mainly because nobody here at home has anything to do with the period 1st half of the 20th century.
Maybe I will rate from 4.5 to 5. This depends on the 'satisfaction' that the 8th episode will offer.
