A triptych of short documentary films that explore the power and vitality of the photo. Each film is separated by 20 years, from the first documentary from the early '60s, through an early '80s documentary, to the most recent. In “Salut les Cubains” (1964), Varda portrays a series of photographs she took during a trip to Castro's Cuba, including an exciting Chris Marker-esque moment when a singer's performance suddenly comes alive before our eyes. In “Ulysse” (1983), she reunites with the subjects of a mysterious photograph taken long ago. And in “Ydessa, the Bears and etc...” (2004), Varda reflects on the significance of teddy bears alongside photographs of living people, when she visits Canada to interview teddy bear artist Ydessa Hendeles.
