Noughts + Crosses plot
Noughts + Crosses is set in a dangerous, alternative world where racism is rampant. Sephy is a Cross and Callum is a Nought. They fall in love and get into a romantic relationship. Both families are not so happy about it, because it entails the necessary danger. True love conquers all, but is it really so?

Noughts and Crosses is about an alternate timeline in which the Africans, referred to in the series as Apricans, are in power. It takes place in Great Britain which is called Albion here. There is an Apartheid regime where a distinction is made between dark and light colored (Whites, Indians and Asians). The dark ones are called Crosses and the lighter ones are called Noughts. The protagonists are the Hadley and McGregor families. The Hadleys are Crosses and the McGregors Noughts. Father Kamal Hadley is Home Secretary while Ryan McGregor works on the docks. Meggie McGregor is the housekeeper at the Hadleys. Daughter Persephone Hadley, known as Sephy, is very fond of Meggie and used to play with Meggie's son Callum McGregor. Now both are young adults and have not seen each other for years, but when they see each other again they fall in love instantly and that is the beginning of all kinds of turbulent events. The series sheds light on a current theme from a different angle and shows that oppression, exploitation and discrimination are not linked to race, but above all to power and the elite. That Elite that has the power wants to keep it at all costs. That has been the case since the beginning of time. Look at the Pharaohs or the Robber Barons from 1800. The BBC has made a strong drama series with Noughts and Crosses and despite the heavy theme it is not preachy but mainly exciting and compelling.
