Jelle Brandt Corstius from north to south through Russia, a country that can be as beautiful as it is terrible at the same time. The journey goes from Murmansk - a city high above the Arctic Circle, where hazing in the Russian army is still the order of the day - to Vologda, where the fun and misery of alcohol is portrayed. The Russian revolution once started in St. Petersburg, and Jelle is looking for new ideals. The route continues past Moscow, arriving at some towns on the mighty Volga. In Nizhny Novgorod, Jelle buys a Russian car and drives on to one of the most polluted cities in the world, to arrive at Volgograd, the former Stalingrad, where he makes a portrait of the Russian woman.
