Bassie en Adriaan en de Diamant plot

Disguised as Bassie and Adriaan, B1 and B2 steal a precious diamond. Because of the disguise, Bassie and Adriaan are suspected of the theft, but they are given three days to prove that they are innocent. Eventually they track down the crooks, but they want to smuggle the diamond out of the country to sell it. Bassie and Adriaan will try to return the diamond and put the crooks behind bars.

Leuk om dit nog eens te hebben teruggekeken. De Diamant overtreft naar mijn mening niet De Plaaggeest, maar weet wel Het Geheim van de Sleutel te evenaren. Dit vond ik als kind al en het blijkt dat mijn mening over de verschillende Bassie en Adriaan series nauwelijks veranderd is. Deze serie heeft trouwens best een aantal nare momenten. Het uitbranden van de iconische caravan en het feit dat het tweetal door iedereen, inclusief hun collega's en het publiek in het circus, als de bad guys gezien wordt, zijn absoluut geen luchtige momenten. Daar staat echter, zoals gewoonlijk bij Bassie en Adriaan, een gezonde dosis humor tegenover. De scènes in Valkenburg zijn erg leuk en ook de voor die tijd spectaculaire climax mag er best wezen. Het is weliswaar wat knullig allemaal, maar vermakelijk is het zeker. De Diamant was zeker niet mijn favoriete B&A-serie, maar toch wel eentje die ik meermaals met plezier bekeken heb. Ik weet nog dat ik de eerste twee opvolgers, De Huilende Professor en Het Geheim van de Schatkaart, altijd een stuk minder leuk vond. Overigens grappig om Paul van Gorcum, die later de Baron zou gaan spelen, hier een bijrolletje te zien spelen als diamantair. 3,5*

Nice to see this again. The Diamond does not surpass The Plague in my opinion, but it does match The Secret of the Key. I already thought this as a child and it turns out that my opinion about the different Bassie and Adriaan series has hardly changed.

This series has quite a few bad moments. The burning out of the iconic caravan and the fact that the two are seen as the bad guys by everyone, including their colleagues and the circus audience, are by no means lighthearted moments. However, as usual with Bassie and Adriaan, there is a healthy dose of humour. The scenes in Valkenburg are very nice and the climax that was spectacular for that time is also quite nice. It is admittedly a bit clumsy, but it is certainly entertaining.

De Diamant was certainly not my favorite B&A series, but one that I have enjoyed watching several times. I remember that I always liked the first two sequels, The Howling Professor and The Secret of the Treasure Map, a lot less. Funny to see Paul van Gorcum, who would later play the Baron, here playing a supporting role as a diamond merchant.
