Ängelby season 1

No, this didn't work out for me in the end. The series intro with that floating text already gave me a dark brown suspicion, but the first four episodes still brought a lot of fun moments with many wacky characters, lyrics and events. Then more of the same, but a bit more dragging and again that kind of armageddon-angle that has been incorporated into so many supernatural series. On Imdb it was compared with Haven. I only saw a few pieces of it, but I was soon done with it. This Swedish product has more to offer in that respect, but in the end it (I assume) goes in the same airy and sentimental direction. I myself am thinking of a Twin Peaks light, complete with a small person as an indicator of all kinds of mystical matters. And even the Mossad is still involved. And there is a moose walking on its hind legs, nice too.

Mia Skäringer is not a punishment to watch, but in terms of acting I find her ultimately limited. Also nice supporting roles from the stubborn agent Viveka, the always difficult-looking chief agent Amos, the rebellious Therese and the bizarre character Torsen. I actually feel like re-watching the first episodes again, because it started really well. It's a shame it goes so wrong, but maybe someone else can do something with it - this is just not my thing. The second season appears to be in the works.

Two stars.
