Good mini-series in which a gang of criminals is on the hunt for a gang member who has left them. The many characters are all well developed. The story itself is quite dragging and slow. But there are plenty of beautiful moments on the other hand, and the western atmosphere and the whole town are perfectly portrayed. It all looks beautiful too.

Relaxed series, with the nice slow pace and atmosphere that fit a western. Godless starts off very promising, but that high expectation is not completely fulfilled. Sometimes scenes that are drawn out a bit too long, such as training the horses and the infamous group of Griffin ends up rather stupidly. For the rest enjoyed the settings, soundtrack and characters. McNue in particular is a fun anti-hero.

Not a big western fan, but I really enjoyed this one. The slow storytelling style is one that you have to get along with, but the advantage that Godless has is that the story (especially the relationship between Roy Goode and Frank Griffin) remains fascinating. In that respect, the series owes a lot to the excellent acting of Jeff Daniels and Jack O'Connell, but I also thought the supporting roles were well portrayed. Bill McNue, Mary Agnes and Whitey Winn in particular manage to keep things alive when the focus is on La Belle. There is tension under the skin and the climax is superbly portrayed. The last 'showdown' reminds me a bit of Once upon a Time in the West. The level of that classic is nowhere reached, but Godless is nevertheless distinctive and amusing enough. Well worth a look!
