Medea plot

At her mother's funeral, Medea meets the love of her life: Jason. This ambitious man also falls head over heels for her. They are very different, but share a great ambition: Renewal of contemporary politics. When Medea's father, who presides over the Senate, is accused of fraud, Medea decides to support Jason in his political ambitions and develops into the ideal campaign manager to make Jason Prime Minister. However, their plans are met with much resistance, both from the old political elite and from friends and family, which puts their love under increasing pressure.

De schitterende openingssequentie met een nummer van Spinvis ten spijt, maar deze poging om het klassieke Griekse noodlotsverhaal van Medea te vertalen naar de eigentijdse politiek werkt niet helemaal. De personages zijn kil en onaangenaam. Het is volstrekt ongeloofwaardig. De zwarte humor is vooral aan de flauwe kant. Op zich wel grappig om voor ons, Hollanders, belangrijke thema's terug te zien, als de opkomst en ondergang van Fortuyn, de bouwfraude, de vastgoedmaffia en bijbehorende liquidaties. Leuk om gezien te hebben, maar meer ook niet.

Despite the wonderful opening sequence with a Spinvis song, this attempt to translate Medea's classic Greek fate into contemporary politics doesn't quite work. The characters are cold and unpleasant. It's completely unbelievable. The black humor is mostly on the bland side. In itself it is funny to see important themes for us, the Dutch, such as the rise and fall of Fortuyn, the construction fraud, the real estate mafia and associated liquidations. Nice to see, but nothing more.
