A Woman of Substance plot

1911. Emma Harte begins as a fourteen-year-old maid on the estate of the aristocratic Fairley family in Yorkshire. After a secret affair, she becomes pregnant by the son of the house, Edwin Fairley. When the family cruelly abandons her, she flees to Leeds. Driven by rage, she swears revenge on the Fairleys. With sheer willpower, intelligence, and hard work, Emma builds an empire from scratch. She starts with a small shop and expands it into a network of exclusive department stores, clothing lines, and real estate.
