Cocaine Quarterback: Signal-Caller for the Cartel plot
Follows the spectacular and ultimately disastrous life story of Owen Hanson, a young football player from Redondo Beach. The documentary traces how Hanson, from humble beginnings through illegal sports betting and cocaine smuggling, became increasingly entangled in the world of organized crime. His close ties to American sports stars who earned millions fueled his thirst for quick money. When he lost millions to the cartel in a failed money-laundering operation, he fell into deadly debt and was eventually brought down by the FBI. Hanson was arrested in 2015 and sentenced in 2017 to over 21 years in prison and a $5 million fine.
