Australia, 1931. The Fletcher family, consisting of John, Ellen and their three children, are suffering from the economic crisis. They load their belongings into a Model T Ford and head for the outback, looking for work for John. When they hear that gold has been discovered in the Coorumbong Creek region, they go there to try their luck.
