This is the story of the Williams family in the late 1960s, as seen through the eyes of imaginative 12-year-old Dean. He looks back on his childhood with his black, middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, with hope and humor—and the wisdom of an adult. It was not always easy, but there were also friends, happy moments and valuable life lessons.
