Gossip Girl tells the story of several wealthy teenagers living on the Upper East Side of New York City. While they are about to go to the most important universities, all sorts of things are happening among themselves. The big questions aren't 'Who graduates with the best grade?', but rather, 'Who has the most money, who's hanging out with whom, who's the Queen Bee of the Constance Billard, and who's going to the Prom with whom? ' Who better to inform you about everyone that matters than Gossip Girl?

- (Potentieel) probleem 1: ik ben hier 40 jaar te oud voor. - (Potentieel) probleem 2: verkeerde geslacht. - Probleem 3: een paar miscasts op vlak van leeftijd: onder andere Penn Badgley en vooral Blake Lively waren echt wel al te oud (21 en 20) om de rollen van16-jarige onschuldige maagden-wiens-eerste-keer-nabij-is te krijgen. - Probleem 4: die leeftijd zorgt er ook voor dat die pubers dan al net iets te oud ogen om de kinderen van hun ouders in de serie te zijn. - Probleem 5: behalve een paar degelijke acteurs is er hier en daar ook belabberd acteerwerk. Ed Westwick is bijzonder eenzijdig, en (alweer) Blake Lively is niet capabel om haar puberlachje en tienerspeelsheid echt te doen lijken. - Probleem 6: de Gossip Girl-website waar alles te lezen en zien valt - is wel een heel goedkoop concept om asap 'alles aan iedereen' bekend te maken. - Probleem 7: een overdosis aan clichés en voorspelbaarheid. Maar, maar: Gossip Girl is een bijzonder ontspannende zit voor wie een druk leven heeft, en die na een jachtige dag even in de zetel wil zitten en het verstand op nul zetten. En na elke aflevering kijk ik weer uit wat er daarna weer zal gebeuren. Niet zo lang geleden zag ik Deadwood; een serie met veel kwaliteiten, en met vooral een sterke acteurs. Maar die me geen moment kon boeien. Gossip Girl, met al z'n tekortkomingen, kan dat wel. Deadwood 2*. Gossip Girl 3,5*.

- (Potential) problem 1: I'm 40 years too old for this.

- (Potential) problem 2: wrong gender.

- Issue 3: A few age miscasts including Penn Badgley and especially Blake Lively

were really too old (21 and 20) to get the roles of 16-year-old innocent virgins-whose-first-time-is-near.

- Problem 4: that age also ensures that those adolescents look just a little too old to be the children of their parents in the series.

- Problem 5: Apart from a few decent actors, there is also some lousy acting here and there. Ed Westwick is extremely one-sided, and (again) Blake Lively is incapable of making her adolescent smile and teenage playfulness seem real.

- Problem 6: the Gossip Girl website where everything can be read and seen - is a very cheap concept to announce 'everything to everyone' asap.

- Problem 7: an overdose of clichés and predictability.

But, but: Gossip Girl is a particularly relaxing seat for those who have a busy life and who want to sit in the sofa after a hectic day and put their mind to zero.

And after every episode I look forward to what will happen next.

Not long ago I saw Deadwood; a series with many qualities, and above all with strong actors.

But who couldn't captivate me for a moment.

Gossip Girl, with all its shortcomings, can.

Deadwood 2*.

Gossip Girl 3.5*.
