After watching Psycho 4, I started this series out of curiosity. The series itself is not bad, but if you take the starting point of an origin story from Psycho, I think it is a lot less successful.

The makers have made 2 wrong decisions, the first is the decision to place the story in the present, I don't know why, but if you are going to refer so clearly to the characters in Psycho then why this decision? I don't think it's a good choice, but that shouldn't have been insurmountable.

I find the second decision fatal, and that is the decision to push Norma Bates into the victim role, while in the psycho series (certainly part 4) she is the evil genius behind Norman's disturbed personality.

Now she is the victim of her own son and that is not what the original main plot is about, in fact, it is quite the opposite.

My question is: how do you explain Norman's behavior if his mother is suddenly not a psychopath? .

Perhaps the makers did not dare to portray a single mother character as evil, because this character switch is the opposite of what the story is about.
