The Horror of Dolores Roach plot

After serving an unjust 16-year prison sentence, Dolores Roach returns to a gentrified Washington Heights. There, Dolores is reunited with an old drug friend, Luis, who lets her live in the basement under his empanada shop and work as a masseuse. Soon the promise of new stability is threatened and Dolores is pushed to extremes in order to survive.

Eat the rich. Gisteren per toeval het bestaan van deze serie ontdekt en in één ruk uitgekeken. Dit is echt topentertainment. Er zit een zekere politieke lading in van gentrificatie in een diverse buurt door 'whites', maar de makers drijven het gelukkig niet op de spits. Ik kreeg er alleszins geen nare Jordan Peele-smaak van in de achterkant van mijn keel en humoristisch vermaak blijft in elke aflevering het hoofdmotief. The Horror of Dolores Roach is gewoon genieten en elke aflevering, met uitzondering van de laatste, wordt vakkundig afgesloten met een heerlijke cliffhanger. Dat dit over kannibalisme zou gaan, had ik absoluut niet kunnen raden en dat ze dit thema op deze manier benaderen, is ronduit hilarisch. Deze serie is origineel, onderhoudend en bij momenten ook gruwelijk. De gore is misschien wat schaars, maar de practical effects zijn goed gedaan. Op de regie valt ten slotte ook weinig aan te merken. Ze hebben dan ook horrorexperts gebruikt om de afleveringen te arrangeren, zoals Eduardo Sánchez die we natuurlijk kennen van The Blair Witch Project.

I accidentally discovered this series yesterday and binge-watched it. This is truly top-notch entertainment. There's a certain political charge about gentrification in a diverse neighborhood by whites, but thankfully the creators don't overdo it. It certainly didn't leave me with a nasty Jordan Peele taste in the back of my throat, and humorous entertainment remains the main theme of every episode.

The Horror of Dolores Roach is simply delightful, and every episode, except the last, expertly concludes with a delightful cliffhanger. I absolutely couldn't have guessed that this would be about cannibalism, and the way they approach the theme is downright hilarious. This series is original, entertaining, and at times horrific. The gore may be a bit sparse, but the practical effects are well-done. Finally, the direction is also quite good. They've employed horror experts to direct the episodes, such as Eduardo Sánchez, who we know, of course, from The Blair Witch Project.
