Bij het tweede seizoen was óók ik verkocht: de surreële gekte, in combinatie met een plot van epische proporties, levert één van de meest eigenzinnige animatieseries ooit op. Onder het kinderlijk naïeve uiterlijk schuilt een gitzwarte dystopie over een wereld waar iedereen even gek of gestoord is, zelfs de personages die heldenrollen vervullen. Langs de andere kant blijken de schurken vaak een verborgen en ontroerende menselijke kant te bezitten.

I was also sold on the second season: the surreal craziness, combined with a plot of epic proportions, results in one of the most idiosyncratic animated series ever. Inderdaad een duidelijke stap omhoog in vergelijking met het eerste seizoen. Wat ik vooral sterk vind is dat er aan de energieke, fantasierijke en opgewekte sfeer donkere randjes toegevoegd worden. "It Came from the Nightosphere", "Death in Bloom" en de Lich-afleveringen zijn in dat opzicht de uitschieters van dit seizoen. Net als bij het eerste seizoen (en de latere seizoenen) is het niveau iets te oneven om een echt hoog cijfer te rechtvaardigen, maar desalniettemin introduceert de serie zich hier definitief als één van de meest inventieve en volwassen animatieseries, met een surrealistische wereld vol complexe personages.
