We are likely going to see more of Timothee Chalamet as Wonka if director Paul King gets his wish.
The official premise of the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory prequel reads:
'The story of how Willy Wonka went from a young adult selling chocolate in a small candy store to an eccentric genius known all the world over.'
It stars Chalamet, Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.
Even though Wonka is yet to hit cinemas, King is already thinking about another movie set in the world Roald Dahl created.
"I would definitely like to do more. And I’d like to spend more time in this world," he told TotalFilm.
"Dahl was definitely interested in taking Willy Wonka on. There are drafts that didn’t really go anywhere, and there’s a short story. He didn’t really write sequels, but this was the one book where he clearly felt there was more in the tank there.
"There’s an awful lot more Wonka story that we have that we would like to tell. I would definitely like to do more. And I’d like to spend more time in this world, and meet some more Oompa Loompas."
Paul King was a fan of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
It is clear that King cares a lot about the world of Wonka, as he was a fan of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel as a child.
"I had a copy of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' when I was little. I remember absolutely loving it and reading it cover to cover so often the pages fell out," he revealed.
"I remember what I most liked about it was how funny it was, how Willy Wonka is this extraordinary, amazing, magical figure, the Oompa Loompas, and the brilliant poems that Dahl writes as their songs - they're so funny, witty, and gleefully naughty, and that sense of naughtiness was very joyful to me."
