What was promised as a fun family day out based on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - at £35 per ticket - turned out to be a disastrous fraud based in a near-empty warehouse in Glasgow.
Children were given half a cup of lemonade and rationed jelly beans as well as a jump around on a bounce castle.
Amateur actors were hired to portray an array of characters, some of which were completely made up with no relation to the Willy Wonka movie or the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book by Roald Dahl.
The characters and dialogue were based on an AI-created script. For example, The Unknown - undoubtedly the most infamous character creation - is said to be a rival chocolate maker to Wonka who lived in the walls. A video of The Unknown emerging from behind a mirror to scare children has earned millions of views on social media.
And, a movie is coming. Titled The Unknown, it is being made by new company Kaledonia Productions.
“The film, gearing up for production and a late 2024 release, follows a renowned illustrator and his wife who are haunted by the tragic death of their son, Charlie. Desperate to escape their grief, the couple leave the world behind for the remote Scottish Highlands – where an unknowable evil awaits them," a preview reads.
The company told Bloody Disgusting. “We are excited to begin production and look forward to sharing more with you as soon as possible. We are actually only a few miles from the event, so it is quite surreal to see Glasgow all over social media, worldwide.”
