Marvel's new Thunderbolts movie is going to surprise a lot of people, in the opinion of director Jake Schreier.
The Phase Five MCU feature will star David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Similar to DC's Suicide Squad, Thunderbolts focuses on a group of anti-heroes.
Marvel is actually going through a bit of a critical rough patch after the poor reception given to the likes of Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Secret Invasion.
A lot of the negativity surrounds the lack of fresh ideas.

But, Schreier reckons Thunderbolts will provide that freshness, and compared it to his previous feature, Beef.
"I can't say what it is, but I can say that there is something different," he told ScreenRant.
"And I think that, again, when you look at something like Beef, there's a specificity of character that then makes the whole thing feel more universal, because it comes from something so personal.
"And I think that something that was exciting about Thunderbolts is it's not a sequel. It's a new story, and it's a set of characters that maybe we've met a little bit in the MCU before, but this is a very new take on who they are and what brings them together. Probably not what people are expecting from it, but I guess I can't really say more than that."
Thunderbolts will be a wild ride
Louis-Dreyfuss, who plays Valentina, has promised a "wild ride".
She says it was pressure from her sons that ultimately made her take a Marvel role.
"For years, both of my boys have been saying, 'Mom, why don't you do a Marvel movie? Do a Marvel movie. Do a Marvel movie.'" she told Collider.
"And I'm like, Oh, they’re not going to pick me for a Marvel movie.' And then they did. And I was like, 'Oh yeah. Now my boys are going to be psyched.'
In that last movie it was revealed that the character is now head of the CIA. That position will ultimately lead her to put together The Thunderbolts, the team of anti-heroes.
