Kurt Russell has responded to rumours that he could join the cast of Superman: Legacy, playing Jor-El.
The official premise of Superman: Legacy reads:
'Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.'
Jor-El has been most notably played by Marlon Brando and Russell Crowe. in live-action movies.
Kurt Russell reckons he has what it takes to live up to Brando, who famously had to read his lines off a placard for scenes in 1978's Superman.
"Yeah! Yeah, I'll take on Marlon Brando!" he told ComicBook.com.
"I mean there was something awesome about the way he was just looking around – I don't care that he was looking at his lines – he's crazy-great to watch!"
Addressing the rumours directly, he continued: "You know what: we don't know a lot about Jor-El. Maybe there's a version... I never heard this, so I don't know. James Gunn was a blast to work with, though, so you never know."
Russell and Gunn previously worked together in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 in which the actor played Ego the Living Planet.
Is Superman: Legacy an origin story?
The origins of Superman have been seen in movies and television shows plenty of times, and as this is a fresh take on the character, fans are wondering if this will be another origin story.
When a fan asked on BlueSky if the movie would address Superman's origins, Gunn responded:
"I think we've seen his origin enough in film at this time!"
