Cinematic universes are the most popular thing in movies at the moment.
We already have the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Comics Extended Universe, while franchises like James Bond and The Fast and the Furious continue to thrive.
There have also been some failed recent attempts at creating universes, like Universal's Dark Universe which failed to get off the ground after the poor reception given to The Mummy.
On television, Stranger Things has created a universe to become probably the most popular television show in the world currently. The show will conclude on Netflix in 2023, but there is already major talk of spin-offs that will take place within that universe.
“Yes, we are building out the STCU (Stranger Things Cinematic Universe), and now that I’m spending time with Kevin Feige, I’m learning a lot about how to manage a universe,” Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy told Variety.
“So I’m taking those skills and applying them to the STCU.”
Deadpool to join Stranger Things?
Levy is directing the third Deadpool movie and has already worked with Ryan Reynolds in the past on movies like Free Guy and The Adam Project.
When asked, tongue-in-cheek, by Variety if we could ever see Deadpool appear in the STCU, the director provided a surprising response.
“Funnily enough, Ryan and I were trying to figure out how in the world could we do a Deadpool-Stranger Things crossover,” he said.
“We haven’t cracked it yet, but it’s on the table.”
