The Star Wars Skywalker Saga may be over, but Star Wars: New Jedi Order, will be set beyond the events of Episode IX and will focus on Rey Skywalker as she embarks on her own journey with the force.

Fans, and even those who weren't exactly fans of the sequel trilogy, are waiting to see how this new batch of films from the iconic franchise will be presented, with the likes of Daisy Ridley set to return as the aforementioned Rey after heading to Tattooine.

Star Wars New Jedi Order Script

Speaking to Collider in March 2024, Daisy Ridley confirmed that whilst she has not yet seen a completed script for the new film, she is expecting to soon.

"I know a script is happening, and I'm going to be reading it imminently, which is very exciting" she revealed during a SXSW interview with the site, also indicating that she believes the film name will still be 'New Jedi Order.'

Has Star Wars New Jedi Order started filming?

Ridley would also reveal to Collider that she is expecting the new movie to start filming this year, noting: "I think it could be this year. It could be, but I'm not sure. I think, to be honest, the writers' strike has obviously delayed quite a lot of things. So the intention was later this year. Hopefully, it will be. Otherwise, top of next, I would imagine."

When is the film set in the Star Wars Universe?

New Jedi Order will be set 15 years after the last film in the sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, which means that in the Star Wars canon, it is in 50 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin).

This is pretty big for Ridley and the story overall, as it will mean that the character of Rey will be around 35 years old, mich closer to the star's real age of 31, as opposed to the younger Rey she portrayed in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and Rise.

Star Wars New Jedi Order Potential Cast

As of writing, only Daisy Ridley is confirmed as returning for this Star Wars film, with some fans hoping to see more cast members from the sequel trilogy also returning to the universe.

Whether we see John Boyega return as Finn or Oscar Isaac return as Poe Dameron remains to be seen, but they have both been open to the idea since wrapping Rise a few years ago.

Considering how Rise ended, it's probably likely that we'll see the droid BB-8, Chewbacca, and the Millennium Falcon featuring in the film in some capacity.

The other expectation, based on online rumours, is that Adam Driver could be returning to play Ben Solo, although as a force ghost after he died in Rise of Skywalker. He did claim in December 2023 that he was not involved with the new project on the Smartless podcast, however, saying: "They're doing stuff, but not with me. I'm not doing any more." He could be trying to throw fans off the scent, but we'll have to wait and see on that one.
