Matthew Perry has been hailed as the most talented member of the cast of Friends.
The legendary sitcom star, who played Chandler Bing in the show, tragically passed away after drowning in his jacuzzi in October of 2023. There was no foul play.
The outpouring of grief was enormous from friends, co-stars, family and fans.
Tom Selleck, who played Richard, a love interest of Monica, has looked back on the comedic genius of Perry.
“He was raw talent,” he told USA Today. “Matthew's gone, so it's easy to say this, but it's true. I think he was the most talented of a very talented group of people."
Selleck and Perry's father John had a prior relationship which meant he gravitated more to Matthew when on the set of Friends.
"Everybody couldn't have been nicer to me,” he continued. "But every day I'd see Matthew, and I'd ask him, 'How's your father?' And he'd always smile and we'd catch up. I got to know his father when I was a young struggling actor. Almost any commercial or pilot I went out on, there was John. We became real good friends."
How was Perry when he died?
Perry struggled with depression and addiction from his time on Friends onwards. It was a daily battle, and questions were raised about his mental state when he died.
"As he said he'd love to be remembered. He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy - that's all I know," Jennifer Aniston told Variety, sitting with The Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon.
"I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn't struggling. He was happy."
Reese added: "It's important people know that."
"It is," Aniston replied. "I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard."
