Despite rumours circulating online that DC Studios have identified who they want to play Batman in the new DC Universe, James Gunn has denied the reports.
The new Batman movie, titled The Brave and the Bold, will feature the live-action debut of Damien Wayne, Batman's son who is initially introduced as a villain but eventually becomes Robin. In this Caped Crusader story, Bruce Wayne had a child with Talia al Ghul whom he was not told about for years.
It is set to be part of the new DC Universe which will be overseen by Gunn and is a separate entity from Matt Reeves' The Batman series, with The Batman: Part II set to be released in 2025.
Robert Pattinson plays Bruce in The Batman, but he will not reprise the role for The Brave and the Bold, which has led to speculation as to who might don the cowl.
Gunn was quick to shut down rumours that Batman had been cast - as the script isn't even finished yet!
"Keep getting this question, don't know where it's coming from but, wherever it is, it's totally false. We don't have a script yet," he said on Threads when asked if a new Batman had indeed been cast.
Andy Muschietti will direct The Brave and the Bold
Even though The Flash received mixed-to-negative reviews and was a major box office disappointment, Gunn and fellow Warner Bros. executive Peter Safran have already confirmed that Andy Muschietti will helm the new Batman movie.
The pair released a statement last year which read:
"We saw The Flash even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan.
"It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice.
"Luckily, Andy said yes. ... We couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU."
