The 'NERDIEST of nerds' helped create Wolverine's look for Deadpool 3

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy was desperate for Wolverine to don his famous yellow and blue outfit on screen for the first time.

Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for over two decades, starting with X-Men in 2000. He has appeared in numerous movies as the character including his last, Logan, in which the character actually died.

The actor himself believed that was the last time he would ever play Wolverine, but the prospect of teaming up with his pal Ryan Reynolds for a new Deadpool movie was too much to resist, and his return as Logan was confirmed in 2022.

Set photos emerged of Jackman wearing the yellow and blue suit that will be familiar to comic book fans, and Levy knew it would be a popular choice.

"Like the rest of the world, I've waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don't know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right," he previously told Entertainment Weekly.

Levy says that he and his crew went through "multiple" different versions of the suit before settling on one for the movie. Luckily for him, he had the experts alongside him.

"It also helps that I'm making this movie within the MCU, so I have access to an army of the nerdiest nerds available to a Marvel project," he joked.

Who will cameo in Deadpool 3?

There are strong rumours that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra after portraying the character in Daredevil and Elektra years ago, while Liev Schrieber could pop up as Sabretooth from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Daniel Radcliffe and Taylor Swift are rumoured to appear as an alternate Wolverine and the mutant, Dazzler, too.

Levy was predictably coy when asked about who could appear.

"I'd rather not weigh in on that, but I'll say this," he teased.

"The rumours of actors, singers, sports stars who are all apparently in Deadpool 3 are fabulous. If all I read was the internet, I would have the greatest cast ever assembled in the history of cinema, so I'll simply say that some of those rumours are true, and some of them aren't."

Production on Deadpool 3 has been impacted by the current actor strike and previous writer strike.
