The Fast and Furious franchise has developed from a street-racing crime romp to a globe-trotting espionage behemoth.
Part of the reason for the continued success of the franchise is the popular actors that are continually added to the cast. There are four Academy Award winners on board - Rita Moreno, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson and Helen Mirren.
Two ex-WWE stars in Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and John Cena also play key roles in the series, and Universal tried to recruit another in Dave Bautista.
However, the Guardians of the Galaxy star wasn't interested and instead campaigned to play the role in any adaptation of Gears of War.
"They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said 'I’m not interested, let’s talk about Marcus Fenix'," he said in an interview with Collider in 2021.
Gears of War adaptation
The Gears of War series is one of the most popular video game franchises in the history of Xbox and has sold 22 million copies worldwide.
The plot involves a near-apocalyptic world in which humans are battling against extinction following the emergence of creatures known as the Locust.
There has been constant talk of a movie adaptation and in November of 2022, Netflix officially announced that they would be producing a new feature as well as a television series based on the game.
Bautista, a fan of the video game, threw his hat in the ring to be the main protagonist Marcus Fenix years ago, and following the Netflix announcement, he has done so again.
The former professional wrestler uploaded an old promo of himself in the Gears of War armour with the caption: "I can't make this any easier".
