Dakota Johnson says she never considered being involved in a superhero movie before Madame Web.
Sony's Spider-Man universe is expanding with the upcoming releases of the aforementioned Madame Web as well as Venom 3 and Kraven the Hunter.
The official synopsis reads:
'Cassandra Webb is forced to confront her past while trying to survive with three young women with powerful futures who are being hunted by a deadly adversary.'
It stars Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts and Zosia Mamet.
Nowadays it seems like A-listers are falling over themselves to get involved in comic book adaptations, but Johnson insists it was only after reading the "gritty" Madame Web script that she considered during a superhero universe.
"I hadn't ever thought that I would be in a superhero world," she told TotalFilm.
"But then when the script came along, I loved the idea of a superhero being a young woman whose mind was extremely powerful, and I liked the dynamic between her and these three young women; how they genuinely protect and support and care for each other. And so, it just seemed different to me and it was way more grounded and real and gritty. I just thought it was an interesting way to experience that world."
Madame Web will be released on 14 February, 2024.
