The epic first trailer has been released for Civil War, written and directed by Alex Garland.
Garland has written and directed three movies previously - Ex Machina, Annihilation and Men - while he wrote the screenplays for 28 Days Later, Sunshine 28 Weeks Later, Never Let Me Go and Dredd.
His latest effort depicts a second Civil War in the United States which takes place between the Western states of California and Texas against the rest of the country, in particular the power states in the East. The focus will be a war photographer, played by Kirsten Dunst, and another band of survivors attempting to escape the escalating violence between the two factions.
Nick Offerman will play the president, while Jesse Plemons appears to be a soldier with less-than-positive intentions.
According to Garland himself, it is "set at an indeterminate point in the future – just far enough ahead for me to add a conceit – and serves as a sci-fi allegory for our currently polarised predicament".
Garland, is, of course, referring to the delicate political climate in America, as over the past few years we've seen an all-out assault on the Capitol Building in Washington and accusations of election tampering, to name just a couple of incidents.
Civil War cast: Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons and Nick Offerman.
