Christian Bale has revealed that R-rated versions of certain scenes were filmed for Thor: Love and Thunder.
In the fourth movie in the Thor franchise, Bale played the villain, Gorr the God Butcher. It was another physical transformation for the actor, who portrayed the terrifying antagonist up against the God of Thunder.
Though Love and Thunder was mostly family-friendly, there were moments of real terror provided by Bale, and according to the man himself, he went overboard a few times when filming.
“With Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika and me, we kind of knew that some of the stuff we were doing probably wouldn't end up in the film, but we wanted to just push it and see," the Batman actor told Inverse.
"Ultimately, it is and should be a film that all the family can go and enjoy. And Chris Hemsworth, a couple of times he looked at me it was like, 'Dude, that's a little too far'.
"I don't think anyone's gonna want to see that unless it's an R-rated film. but it was a great joy to give it a shot. And we had a lot of fun in there doing certain scenes and takes on certain scene choices, even if they didn't end up in the final cut.”
Thor will return
At the conclusion of Love and Thunder and the post-credits scenes, audiences saw the message:
'Thor will return,'
Incredibly, director Taika Waititi has admitted that he had no idea that the message would appear at the end of his movie.
"That was a surprise to me, too. I'm not joking," he said.
"I saw it in the theatre and I was like, 'Oh, s***. Really?' Even Chris was like, 'What?' But, of course he'll be back.
"He's the best character. I mean, I may be a little biased, but he's the most fun to watch."
