Barbie director Greta Gerwig is open to the idea of directing a Bond movie.
The actress/director/screenwriter is currently promoting Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, which is now the highest-grossing movie in history with a female director at the helm.
Two of Gerwig's other projects, Lady Bird and Little Women, earned Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, while she was nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for the former.
She is now one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood and her upcoming projects include Snow White and a new take on The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
And, she might take on the biggest action franchise of all as she is a fan of Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli...
“Oh my God. We’re going to just stick with some lions and some dolls for the moment," she said in a conversation with Total Film.
“But you never know. I really like Barbara Broccoli, so…”
Broccoli is currently searching for the next James Bond following Daniel Craig's retirement from the role.
Christopher Nolan could direct a Bond movie
For James Bond fans, one of the dream director choices for nearly 20 years has been Christopher Nolan.
The acclaimed filmmaker has helmed some of the biggest movies of the century including the Dark Knight series, Inception, Interstellar and Oppenheimer.
He has long been linked with potentially helming a Bond movie, and it appears he would consider working on that franchise if the circumstances were right.
"The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent. It would be an amazing privilege to do one,” Nolan said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
"At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints.
"It has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really burrow into something within the appropriate constraints because you would never want to take on something like that and do it wrong."
