Director James Cameron delivered a keynote speech at Digital Day and in his presentation he allowed thsoe present to see a few scenes from The Way of Water. One of those in attendance was writer-director Liam O'Connell, who waxed lyrical about what he had seen on Twitter.
“AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER appears to be the most insanely complicated movie ever made. Holy s***. James Cameron’s Digital Day keynote just broke my brain.
“Just the amount of data they captured... Underwater performance capture with 15 cameras. 2 cams on every actor’s face capture. Underwater reference capture for fully CG creatures. Oh yeah and infrared depth capture to place CG characters in the live action footage.”
O'Connell revealed that one scene in particular involving Sam Worthington was "badass".
14 years after the events of the first part, a lot has changed for Jake and Neytiri, who have since found their place in the rainforest of Pandora that they can call home. The two have three Na'vi children together and an adopted fourth human child named Spider. Jake and Neytiri do everything they can to keep this family together, but when they are threatened again by RDA miners, they are forced to leave their home. They end up in a completely different environment near a reef, where the Metkayina clan lives. However, this environment is not without danger, especially when it turns out that Jake and Neytiri's family lives in a culture they do not know.
