Alden Ehrenreich would jump at the chance to play Han Solo again in the Star Wars universe.
Solo: A Star Wars Story was released in 2018 and received mixed reviews from critics, while it is considered to be a box office bomb, the biggest in the history of the Star Wars series in fact.
At the time of the movie's release, Variety reported that it needed to make $500 million just to break even when accounting for production and marketing costs. Its total worldwise gross was $393m.
Ehrenreich beat competition from the likes of Taron Egerton, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Dave Franco to land the role of one of cinema's most iconic heroes. His performance as Han was not one of the aspects of the movie that was highlighted for criticism, and he wants another shot to play the Han we all know.
"If it was the right iteration and the right thing, I would love it," he told Uproxx.
"Because, for me, in the first movie you watch him become Han. I got to be Han Solo for the last 15 minutes of the movie, maybe. And so being Han Solo is the fun part.
"And I have no f****** idea if there is ever a world where any of the happens, and if it happens, great, if it doesn't, whatever.
"But it was really great to... that's what's appealing to me about it because in a way they built this sort of origin story for when he becomes who he is, but then that guy is the guy that's really fun and it's a ball to play that character specifically."
Solo sequel not a priority for Disney
Fans of Solo: A Star Wars story won't be happy to hear recent comments from director Ron Howard regaring a potential sequel.
Howard, who stepped into the director's chair after previous directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller left over creative differences, doesn't believe a Solo sequel is a priority for the studio.
“The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for Solo is coming from the fans at this point," the director revealed to NME.
“I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.
Howard did go on to say that a sequel was not out of the question for the future, however.
“There’s some great characters launched, and the folks from Lucasfilm love the fans and really do listen so I would never say never – but I’m not aware of any concrete plans right now to extend the story or deal with that particular set of characters," he explained.
