Dodge City, Kansas, 1869. Bat Masterson struggles to become a good reporter at the Kansas City Clarion. He eventually takes a job as a marshal of Dodge City. However, maintaining peace in the city is more difficult for Bat than making new contacts. One of Bat's new contacts is the gullible saloon singer Dora Hand, whom he falls in love with. It's only when Dora is shot by Texan cattle baron King Kennedy that Bat takes his job as Dodge City marshal seriously: he sets out to rid the city of desperados and corruption for good.
