During the Mexican Civil War, Tom Bryan (Rory Calhoun) is a mercenary who offers his services to the highest bidder. It can be bought for money and gold. Juan Castro (Gilbert Roland) belongs to Pancho Villa and is responsible for the gold with which to buy new weapons and ammunition. Ruth Harris (Shelley Winters) is the local schoolmistress. They both want Tom, Juan for the gold and the handsome Ruth because she believes in the good cause.
