Stagecoach plot

"A powerful story of nine strange people."

A stagecoach carrying seven passengers from various backgrounds is en route from Tonto, New Mexico, to the settlement of Lordsburg. The passengers are: Dallas, a prostitute, who has to leave Tonto; the pregnant Lucy Mallory, wife of an officer in Lordsburg; Hatfield, a smooth talker and card player, who has a crush on Lucy; the doctor and drunkard Dr. boone; the nervous liquor dealer Peacock; the corrupt banker Gatewood and the wanted vengeful outlaw Ringo Kid, who has boarded on the way. Buck is the coachman and Sheriff Willcox sits next to him to protect the party. What would become a standard journey soon turns into a perilous journey by Apaches, who are on the warpath led by the infamous Geronimo. The travelers are therefore dependent on each other to survive.

As a Western fan it is almost impossible not to be aware of the classic status of this Western as the central film of the genre, but even if I go beyond that I see an old but still very much alive film that has plot, cliché but rock-solid characterizations. with moments for everyone, great performances, atmospheric interiors, photography and pace (both speed and pacing) can still keep up with the best. That first arrow still comes as a brilliant shock, and it's nice that I kept waiting for the scene where Hatfield would show his true nature, while remaining noble right through (his) end. The climactic shoot-out is perhaps a bit too brief. Nice chemistry between Wayne and Trevor, a deserved Oscar for Mitchell, and the beginning of the golden era of the Western with Ford and Wayne as central figures on both sides of the camera.

Good film in which a number of people make a dangerous journey through Indian territory with a stagecoach. The collection of characters come out well, partly due to the excellent casting. As a result, the interaction within the group also works well. The second half has a pretty spectacular action scene, but you can now label the falling horses as problematic.
