"MILE AFTER TREACHEROUS MILE OF CHURNING RIVER FURY...their only escape!"
Captain Harper returns to the fort with his cavalry from patrol and finds it besieged by the Ute Indians. Most likely the cause of the attack is the arrest of the traitor Brett Halliday, who defected to the Ute tribe in a previous war, but Brett has a different story. With the impending capitulation in sight, the only way out for the few survivors of the attack (including Harper, Halliday and Laura Evans) is to flee by boat through a wild, uncharted river. Harper and Halliday will have to work together if they are to survive.
