Outlaws of Pine Ridge plot
John Hollister has a shot at running for governor, and Cardeen plans to fail through Lane, Hollister's son. Someone attempts to kill Cardeen and Lane shoots the attacker in the back. Lane is charged with murder and tells his story to Chips Barrett. Barrett investigates and finds that the man who was shot was shot in the stomach and not in the back. Nearby, Barrett also finds a weapon loaded with blanks.
